PHILADELPHIA − November 20, 2024 – Senator Sharif Street is pleased to announce a total of $17,050,000 in grant awards to various organizations and community projects in the 3rd Senate District. These funds, provided through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), will support projects aiming to rectify infrastructure, improve sustainability, and enhance accessibility. These projects will have significant impacts on residents, providing upgraded recreational facilities, expanding development programs, and enhancing the city’s energy efficiency and accessibility.

“Capital resources ensure projects that impact communities in positive ways are able to provide fair wage jobs and programs that benefit my constituents. Libraries, recreation centers and parks keep our young people safe. I am proud to support projects that are creating affordable housing and quality education for those seeking better opportunities for themselves and their families,” said Senator Street.

The following are the key projects receiving funding:

  1. City of Philadelphia – Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, & Sustainability | Construction of new curbs, footways, installing new sewer lines and vent, water, and gas boxes along 16th Street, focused on enhancing ADA accessibility.
  2. 545 North Broad Dental Clinic | Improvements to a first-floor retail space to include a lobby, reception, exam rooms, and treatment rooms designed to provide dental care and allow for student observation and instruction.
  3. Owl Realty Group LLC | Supplementing construction costs and hiring subcontractors in all areas to complete the court at 1800 project in a timely fashion.
  4. Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School | Renovation of the school campus to expand administrative offices, enlarge the social hall/dining center, reconfigure the work study office, install a new ceiling to reduce noise, and create new department offices.
  5. Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site | Protect open yards along Cellblock 3 to ensure long-term stability of these structures.
  6. Happy Hollow Playground | Renovations to enhance ADA accessibility, improve the recreation building, and upgrade the outdoor recreation facilities.
  7. Historic Carman Gardens Heath Center | Conversion of the existing roller-skating rink into a new health and wellness space, adding a new second floor space to house all medical and related operations on site, increasing convenience for patients.
  8. North District Owner LLC | Upgrades to the infrastructure and safety of a long-vacant industrial building that will jumpstart its conversion to a workforce development hub.
  9. Lawncrest Recreation Center | Renovations to the recreation building to include new mechanical systems, refresh interior spaces, enhance ADA accessibility and pedestrian safety, and build new basketball courts, soccer mini-pitch, outdoor volleyball courts, and a new asphalt walking loop.
  10. Nicetown Sport Court | Acquisition, construction, and installation of sports facilities on the 3-acre site, including seating areas, bicycle and skate parks, and a vendor area.
  11. Panati Playground | Construction of a new recreation building and improvements to the outdoor recreation facilities.
  12. Temple University Broad Street Revitalization | Renovation of 1700 North Broad Street building to create two separate retail boxes for lease, including infrastructure upgrades to replace windows and bring bathrooms up to current ADA standards.
  13. UAC PNC North Broad Community Connection Center | Renovations to readapt the space for more practical use, including improvements to building décor, modifications to existing structure, and retrofitting to allow for sustainability and energy efficiency.
  14. YouthBuild Philadelphia II | Renovate a vacant building at 2309 North Broad Street to create an energy efficient alternative education school.
