PHILADELPHIA, December 16, 2016 — Two local transportation improvement projects have been awarded $1.3 million in state funding, according to state Senator-elect Sharif Street
The Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority was awarded a $1.2 million state grant for the Logan Pointe Streetscape, Public Transportation & Pedestrian Safety Initiative. Specifically, the funds will go toward improvements to failing transportation infrastructure as part of the redevelopment of the long-vacant Logan Triangle.
The nonprofit Nueva Esperanza was awarded a $100,000 state grant toward streetscape improvements along the diverse and thriving North Fifth Street commercial corridor in Hunting Park.
“I’m excited to begin serving my community, beginning with announcing this significant funding for these improvement projects,” said Street, who will be sworn-in as state senator for the 3rd Senatorial District on Jan. 3. “I’m pleased that the state is investing in local efforts to boost quality of life and economic development.”
The funds were administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to administer funding for economic development projects.
