HARRSIBURG, March 18, 2020 – Today Senator Street joined colleagues in the Senate Democratic Caucus in Harrisburg to formally enact rules to allow the Senate to convene remotely and submit a request the Pennsylvania Supreme Court halt all eviction and foreclosure during the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Senate convened to enact rules to allow us to convene remotely, acknowledging the importance of social distance during this unprecedented health crisis, said Senator Street, “as we urge constituents to do the same out of an abundance of caution to flatten the curve and rapid progression of the coronavirus, I’m encouraged the Supreme Court has heeded our request to allow Pennsylvanians to focus on family and taking care of themselves and each other. No one should be forced into homelessness while working to protect and feed their family. We will continue to assess the situation during the pandemic. We still have much work to do to further secure our communities.”
In a General Statewide Judicial Emergency, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court halted any court action to “effectuate an eviction, ejectment or other displacement from a residence based upon the failure to make a rent, loan, or other similar payment,” until April 3rd or further depending on developments.
The entire Senate Democratic Caucus signed the letter requesting the Pennsylvania Supreme Court halt all eviction and foreclosure proceedings.
