HARRISBURG, Jan. 23, 2017 — State Sen. Sharif Street will play a key role in the 2017-18 state budget negotiations as a newly appointed member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
“I’m honored to be appointed to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee as a new state senator and as a representative of a diverse and economically challenged district,” said Sen. Street (D-Philadelphia). “The committee examines all legislation related to the budget and any measures that require state funding, and I look forward to debating these crucial bills to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are spent appropriately.”
Sen. Street was recently appointed Democratic chair of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Senate Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Communications and Technology and Urban Affairs and Housing committees.
“I look forward to representing the best interests of my community and all Pennsylvanians in each of these committees,” Sen. Street said.
Sen. Street was appointed to the Senate committees by Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa.
