PHILADELPHIA, PAAugust 19, 2026 − Senator Sharif Street is proud to announce that the City of Philadelphia has been awarded $2,141,269 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) through PennDOT to restore two historic streets in the Brewerytown neighborhood, preserving the community’s historic character while improving the streetscape for residents, businesses and visitors.

The funding will support the Restoring the Historic Streets of Brewerytown project, which will focus on resetting, restoring and replacing historic street materials along two streets in the neighborhood. The improvements are designed to enhance the character of Philadelphia’s locally designated Historic Street Paving Thematic District while preserving important elements of the city’s architectural and cultural history.

The project will restore historic paving materials and infrastructure that contribute to Brewerytown’s distinctive character. By carefully preserving and rehabilitating these streets, the project will help maintain the neighborhood’s historic identity while supporting continued investment in the surrounding community.

“This $2.14 million investment is an important step toward preserving the historic character of Brewerytown while ensuring these streets remain an asset to the community for years to come,” said Senator Sharif Street. “Philadelphia’s historic neighborhoods tell the story of our city, and investments like this allow us to protect that history while strengthening our communities and supporting neighborhood revitalization.”

The restoration is expected to enhance the appearance and character of the Historic Street Paving Thematic District while contributing to the continued revitalization of Brewerytown. Learn more about the MTF here.
