PHILADELPHIA, PAJuly 17, 2025 – Senator Sharif Street is proud to announce that the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority will award grants through the $20 million Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP) to distribute hundreds of laptops throughout Senator Street’s district.

Across Pennsylvania, there are currently 286,000 households, businesses, schools, and libraries that have no or insufficient access to broadband. DCTP will provide laptops to non-profits, community anchor institutions, and governments who will then loan or make the laptops available to Pennsylvanians to improve education, workforce development, health, and employment outcomes. This significant investment by the Shapiro Administration will allow more students to succeed in school, more entrepreneurs to start new businesses, and more patients to access care.

In Senator Street’s district, Temple University and The Laboratory School of Communication and Languages Charter School will be receiving 200 laptops, each. Senator Street is excited to bring these necessary resources to schools in his district.

“In 2024, I was proud to cosponsor SB 739 requiring health insurance and managed care plans to pay for covered health care services delivered through telemedicine – expanding access to critical services for Pennsylvanians.” said Senator Sharif Street. “Expanding broadband connectivity is critical to ensuring equitable access to opportunities in the modern age. I am proud to bring essential technology resources to the residents of my district that will enhance children’s educational outcomes, allow access to telemedicine, and provide the means to apply for higher education and employment.”
